FINE ENGLISH SHIRTS

The company was founded by Raymond Cleeve who, having been made redundant from Van Heusen, decided to set up his own business producing old fashioned high quality tunic shirts. He rented small premises in Chard and employed 14 machinists.  By the end of 1976 demand for the 100% cotton tunic shirts being produced by his factory had increased and customers were also requesting collar attached shirts of the same quality. A larger space was needed and so a purpose built factory was built on a nearby site.

In the last decade of the nineteenth century, plans for a modern factory on a new business park on the outskirts of the town, were submitted and approved.  The new factory with a floor area of 985 square meters was completed in 1998 and opened by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, heralding a bright future for Chard shirt manufacturing.  The factory continues to make shirts in this location to the current day.

Still keeping the brand name of Cleeve of London, the company uses the finest fabrics in the world for its shirts which are still exported around the world.
